Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham boss says people underestimate his side

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino said "people underestimate us" and called his players "heroes" after defeating Borussia leaders Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the first leg of the Champions League knockout round.

Son Heung-min, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente scored a goal as Spurs dominated the second half at Wembley.

"The team is fighting, I'm so proud," said Pochettino.

"They deserve full recognition, and what they do is amazing."

Can "huge threats" Spurs stay under the radar?

Spurs made an unlikely turn to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition after earning just one point from their first three group games.

They had not beaten top scorer Harry Kane and midfielder Dele Alli on Wednesday at Wembley, but were able to hold their own against a Dortmund side that had reached that stage in five of their last six seasons in the Champions League.

South Korean striker Son, who has scored four goals in so many games since returning from the Asian Cup, has given Tottenham a "massive boost" with the first goal, Pochettino said.

"Son was fantastic again, I think he's a player who gives the team a lot of things," Pochettino said.

"He has a smile and a lot of energy, his performances improve and improve every game."

Despite a comfortable first leg, Pochettino still believes that there is "a lot to do" to enter the quarter-finals.

The second leg will take place on 5 March at Dortmund's Westfalenstadion.

"3-0 is a very good result, but at the same time I think we have to think that we have to finish the job," added Pochettino.

"Whenever we play this competition and against a good team like Dortmund it is very difficult."

The Spurs boss seemed to make some tactical changes at half-time and said he "wanted to make the best decision" to reverse the performance.

"We talked about our defensive positions and changed things, sometimes it works and sometimes not," said the Argentine.

"We have a lot of talented players, we have an incredible team and I'm happy with all the players, the only problem is that we can only play 11 and not 22 players."
